The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Honourable Moustapha Cisse Lo on Friday in Abuja, Nigeria urged members to remain united and give preference to dialogue and consultations at all times.
Reacting to the unanimous nomination of Deputy Speakers for the Fourth Legislature, Honourable Cisse Lo promised to always listen to his colleagues and entertain their views.
He commended those who made it possible for the Bureau to be formed without having to hold elections and specifically mentioned Honourable Filomena de Fatima Ribeiro Viera Martins, who stepped down for her compatriot from Cape Verde, Honourable Orlando Pereira Dias to prevent a vote for the position of Fourth Deputy Speaker.
The Speaker said Honourable Filomena Martins’ action resonated with his inaugural speech that advocated consensus over divisive votes.
He adjourned the Plenary to Monday next week when the Parliament will consider the report of the ad hoc Committee on the Draft Rules of Procedure for adoption.
